چکیده

Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a rare chronic degenerative disease. The only approved treatment, Riluzole, not available and economically affordable for most patients. Objective: To report here case of pregnant woman 27 years age with ALS, confirmed through electromyography. After spontaneous abortion 88 days without clinical improvement dependent on mechanical ventilation, treatment autologous stem cell transplantation immunomodulation was decided upon the patient. Methods: patient received daily subcutaneous (s.c.) dose 300 μg human Granulocyte-Colony stimulating factor period 3 days. Peripheral blood mononuclear cells were isolated by leukapheresis. These self-transplanted to 5 cc via lumbar puncture intravenously (i.v.). based surface-fixation method. Results: remained hospitalized an additional 249 days, at which time when she contrareferred secondary-level health institution. Conclusion: A scheme combining ASCT (Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation) immunomodulation, method, could be option get large no progression stage in ALS.

Intraspinal Stem Cell Transplantation for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a devastating neurodegenerative disorder in which the loss of upper and lower motor neurons produces progressive weakness and eventually death. In the decades since the approval of riluzole, the only US Food and Drug Administration-approved medication to moderately slow progression of ALS, no new therapeutics have arisen to alter the course of the disease....

Autologous mesenchymal stem cells: clinical applications in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

OBJECTIVES Our study was aimed to evaluate the feasibility and safety of intraspinal cord implantation of autologous mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in a few well-monitored amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) patients. METHODS Seven patients affected by definite ALS were enrolled in the study and two patients were treated for compassionate use and monitored for at least 3 years. Bone marrow was...

Autologous stem cell transplantation for a monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance mimicking amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: A case report

It is rare for patients with monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) to present with clinical features of fatal motor neuron disease, for example amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). There is no standard and effective therapy for either MGUS or ALS. In addition, stem cell transplantation appears to be ineffective for the treatment of this disease. In the present study, a 47-ye...

Advances in stem cell research for Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis.

Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized primarily by motor neuron loss in the motor cortex and spinal cord leading to progressive disability and death. Despite the relative selectivity of motor neuron loss, recent studies have implicated other cell types including astrocytes and microglia as contributors to this cell death. This understanding has result...

Clinical relevance of stem cell therapies in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), characterized by the progressive loss of both upper and lower motor neurons, is a fatal neurodegenerative disorder. This disease is often accompanied by a tremendous physical and emotional burden not only for the patients, but also for their families and friends as well. There is no clinically relevant treatment available for ALS. To date, only one Food and ...
